Tile Adhesives

C1 vs C2 Tile Adhesive: Understanding the Difference

C1 is normal cementitious performance. C2 is improved performance. The rest of the code tells you the special characteristics.

C means cementitious

Under EN 12004 / IS 13607, the letter C marks a cementitious adhesive. The letter R marks a reaction-resin adhesive. CRIC CT-01 through CT-04 are documented with C classifications. PU Adhesive is documented as R2T.

The number is the performance class

A 1 is normal performance. A 2 is improved performance, with additional requirements beyond the normal class. CT-01 is C1TE. CT-02 is C2T, CT-02 Prime is C2TE, and CT-03 and CT-04 are C2TES1.

Improved performance is why C2 products are the ones documented for larger tiles, exterior floors and, in the higher types, elevations. Normal performance is documented on CT-01 for internal floors and walls within its tile sizes.

Do not stop at C1 or C2

Two C2 adhesives are not identical. C2T, C2TE and C2TES1 differ in open time and deformability. Match the full code to the tile size and the location printed for that CRIC product.
